Comments from Dennis: This was a great Strider race tonight. We won the following team awards: George Whitman III Open award (Most participants, this is a very important award as it honors the son of George Whitman, A Striders member. I believe we have won this award every year since its inception. This is our home territory and we should win this every year).
Female Open 1st Place; Male Open 2nd Place

Comments from Bruce: You may have noticed Betty’s and my absence from some key September races. On the Somerville Sizzle weekend, Betty, Brian Davenport, and I were invited to a friend's shore house in Seaside Park. I recognized the area immediately as the location of the Red Dog Half that started in Seaside Heights (the next town up). Saturday morning was drizzly and not really sit-on-the-beach weather so Betty, Brian, and I went to a Jersey Shore 5 K run. I figured to "show them" by doing well where no one knew me. I didn't do too poorly, but, they showed me as Alicia Kelly beat my pants off and a 51 yr old stayed just ahead of me at the finish line. 54 runners finished the race.

Carlton shaved almost a minute from his prior best at last year's Paramus Run! This was achieved despite a pretty significant hill at the 2 mile mark.

Comments from Bruce: On the weekend of the Liberty Half, Betty and I were visiting our friends in Charlottesville, Virginia. We also found a 5K down there. It was a benefit for the University of Virginia Crew Team We showed up and there wasn't even an application (or waiver) to sign. We just printed our names on a pad of paper. This race was on the web! That's how we found out about it. We found an old application (I think it was last year's) and we studied the course and found that there had only been awards for the top three males and the top three females. The race started. I was almost immediately in 15th or so place. Then the rabbits realized that the race was longer than 100 meters. As the end of the race neared, there was a slow LONG uphill and I was able to finally move into 3rd place. I crossed the finish line and they took my name and told me my time was 18:27. They didn't take any other names until the females came in. Betty finished 117th in 28:41. At the Awards ceremony, they gave two prizes to the top females, then only one prize to the top man. I walked up and asked about my prize. They said "Sorry, that's all the prizes we have." I would have liked to have my age noted to all of the University students - I didn't really need a prize. I was a bit disappointed.
