Roseland Run for the Roses 5K: 1 June 2002
Bruce Langenkamp 17:25 1 OA
Wayne Bell 20:56 5 OA, 1 AG
Betty Langenkamp 28:13 1 AG

Comments from Bruce: It was a beautiful morning for a run. Betty and I went to Roseland, where they have a nice small race (no GrandPrix points, but a nice race). Wayne Bell also showed up. And then Scott Fawcett. Scott went out fast - 5:07 first mile (mostly downhill, but we wonder about the measurement anyway). Then he tired out and let me take the lead.

The only way to categorize the weather was typical Run for the Roses: hot, hot, hot. The ice at the end of the race was refreshing, but a swimming pool would have been better. I don’t know whether the runners who decided to run the 5K race in the morning and the 10K race in the evening should be congratulated or committed (Bruce Langenkamp, Steve Honthy, Wayne Bell, Eva & Steve Fisher). Of these runners, Wayne Bell faired the best setting a PR for each course.

After 25 years the name of the race will be changing to the Run at Denville. Pam Fales will also be taking over as the race director next year. Good luck and I hope you bring cooler weather with you.
