Betty Langenkamp 29:53
Comments from Bruce: Saturday was not like the rest of the week. Gone were the
50 and 60 degree
temperatures. On went the hat, gloves, long sleeves and long pants. It was 25
degrees when we arrived. There were a few snowflakes in the air. Bill Bosman and
Laurie Parton showed up. They decided to run in T-shirts and shorts. The course
was 3 loops of (like the Name says) roads and trails. The first loop, Zach took
the lead, then Bosman moved up and ran with him. On the trails portion of the
second loop, Bruce took over the lead and, although it was rather close, stayed
ahead to the finish. Bosman, who had won last year, was second. Zach was 4th.
Imagine a race where a 52 year old beats out a 50 year old for the win.
Las Vegas Marathon: 3 February 2002
Steve Austin 3:32:14 PR
Steve not only completed his first marathon, but he also managed to run a negative split in the process (second half of marathon faster than the first). That not only requires being in top shape, but also takes tremendous discipline in the process not go out too fast. Congratulations.

place;
Men’s 50 team: 2nd place; Women’s Open team: 9th
place; Women’ 40 team: 3rd place
On a very unseasonably warm March day, the USATF-NJ Grand Prix got underway
for 2002 with the Newark Distance Classic 20K. The Striders managed to
field 5 teams, highlighted by the Women's Master 40 team taking 3rd, the Men's
Masters 40 team with a 4th and Men's Master 50 team with 2nd!! Steve
Fisher had his best race in a while, beating one of his nemesi for possibly the
first time in years in a race. The Women Masters 40 team should do very well
this year, a welcome plus for Grand Prix scoring.
