The race had very good weather for the middle of December with temperatures in the 30s, but no wind at all. It certainly made it more bearable for the course marshals as well as the runners (I unfortunately was a course marshal). With many Striders running the race, we were able to enter teams in many categories. The open men’s team was the biggest surprise finishing in 4th place (only 2 minutes out of second place), for their best showing of the year. In addition to the usually cast of characters (Gene, Mike Los, Jim Murnane), Bruce Park showed up in excellent shape finishing second on the team. Steve Kohorst was the only masters runner to score on the team, definitely a positive sign for the future. Mike Los has been doing an excellent job of organizing the team this year, and it is showing real results.

The men’s 40 year old masters team finished in 5th place. However, both the men’s 50 and 60 year old teams won their age groups. The women entered both an open and 40 year old masters team using the same runners (Eva, Vicky, Sue and Chris). The open team finished in 5th place and the masters team finished in 3rd place.

Bruce Langenkamp has once again continued to amaze everyone with his ability to run well with little or no training. Bruce injured his foot about one month before the race and was not able to run for that entire one month period. In fact he was not even sure if he would be able to run until the morning of the race (given the choice of being a course marshal or running, he chose to run). In spite of the lack of training he was able to run a very fast 1:01:36 and finish second in his age group.

Chris Ange ran her first 10 mile race (her longest race so far). Her pervious longest race had been the Swamp Devil 15K in November. In spite of not feeling well the day of the race, she was able to run extremely well and finish third in her age group. In fact she even beat some of the Strider’s male runners.

Thanks for the quick results, Joel!!
